Plenty of kitchens here have a gas cooktop in a laminate benchtop that dates from the sixties or seventies. Swapping it for induction is straightforward, but the circuit is the sticking point. An induction cooktop needs a dedicated circuit, and the small boards in many post-war homes have no spare breaker for it. We check, then either add the circuit or upgrade the board. In units, gas is often connected via a common supply, and a licensed gasfitter must disconnect your unit's line and may need body corporate sign-off. For townhouse owners who inherited a gas cooktop in a newer kitchen, the board is usually ready and the job is simple.
