Some of Brighton's oldest houses have been renovated on the surface many times while the wiring behind it has barely changed. Old cable in the roof or walls can become brittle and unsafe, and it was never designed for heating systems, pools or home theatres. Rewiring a large period house is a delicate task. We plan routes through roof space and subfloor, minimise cuts through plaster and cornices and work room by room if you are living in the house. Expect a plain explanation of what we find before we quote. Where heritage overlays apply, we keep visible changes subtle. In houses that were rebuilt recently, the wiring is usually modern, and we say so rather than suggest unnecessary work. A properly planned rewire also lets you add outlets and lighting in the right places while the house is open.
