When we test, we are looking for failing insulation, joints in the wrong places and circuits that have been extended too far. If a rewire is the answer, we plan it around the house, using the roof space and subfloor and avoiding chasing walls where we can. That helps in compact homes with shared walls and heritage plaster. Owners who renovate inward and backward often combine a rewire with the works, which saves opening walls twice.
