Houses in Bulleen were often built for big households, with two storeys, a long hall and rooms for the extended family. The wiring behind the walls was sized for 1960s habits, so each room has a modest outlet or two. Today, one family member works from the downstairs bedroom, another charges a tablet in the lounge and the workshop holds tools that all need a socket. We add GPOs where they are needed, put double powerpoints in the main living spaces and fit a USB-C outlet beside the bed. In the garage and workshop, a bank of outlets above the bench saves extension leads, and an outdoor powerpoint on the patio suits the barbecue and string lights. Taking cable between floors takes planning in a double-storey house, and we work out the route before starting. We also check the board can handle the extra circuits.
