Federation and Edwardian houses in Ivanhoe were wired long after they were built, so powerpoints were added wherever it was easiest, which is rarely where you want them. The challenge now is putting in more outlets without damaging cornices, picture rails or lath and plaster. We work from the roof space and sub-floor where we can, fish cable through walls and, where an outlet must go on a feature wall, choose a position that sits quietly beside the skirting. Interwar bungalows are a little easier, and newer apartments near the station usually have concrete or plasterboard that allows a neat cut-in. Modern living puts a laptop, a phone and a lamp in every room, so a double powerpoint with a USB-C outlet is a popular swap. We walk through the house with you first and mark every position, so nothing is a surprise.
