Picture a weatherboard bungalow near Station Street with one outlet per room and a power board on every one of them. That is the normal starting point for powerpoints here. Weatherboard cavities are usually kind to us, so we can often fish cable from the roof space or floor void and keep patching to a minimum. In brick or lath-and-plaster rooms we work more slowly and sometimes use neat surface conduit that matches the skirting. Clifftop and bayside homes also want outdoor power for decks and verandahs, so we fit weatherproof fittings suited to salt air. Because the wiring in older houses is often a patchwork, we test what we connect to before adding load. If the existing circuit is tired, we run a new one instead of hanging more outlets on it.
