Many of the 1950s and 60s homes east of Central Park still have their first board. The wiring may be perfectly decent, but the fuse box protecting it is a different story. Old boards often have no RCD at all, so a fault to earth isn't cut as quickly as it would be today. We replace the lot with modern circuit breakers and safety switches, label every circuit, and leave you with a tidy board that makes sense to the next person. It also gives you somewhere to put new circuits for an air conditioner, an induction cooktop or a studio out the back. Townhouse subdivisions in the area sometimes bring fresh supply arrangements, and we check those on the day. We always say what the existing supply can carry before you commit to the extra load.
