Swapping gas for induction in an old cottage kitchen is less fuss than it sounds. Our induction cooktop installation in South Melbourne includes the new circuit, the cooktop and a neat finish.
South Melbourne 3205
Cottage kitchens on Emerald Hill are often small, with a gas cooktop on a wall shared with the neighbour and not much room to rearrange. An induction cooktop needs its own dedicated circuit, which means a cable from the board to the kitchen. In a single-storey cottage that can travel through the roof space, and in a terrace we plan the route to avoid cutting into period plaster. First we check that the board has a free slot and enough capacity. If not, we talk through a board upgrade before anything else. Once the circuit is in, we fit the cooktop, test it and make sure the benchtop cutout is tidy. Capping the old gas line is a licensed gasfitter's job, so book that separately or let us know your plumber. Hold a fridge magnet against your pots to see whether they will work on induction. For induction cooktop installation in South Melbourne, the cable route is the part worth planning.
What the job involves, warning signs and what's included are on our main induction cooktops page. For everything else we do locally, see electrician South Melbourne.
Good work. Happy locals.

FAQ

Usually, as long as the benchtop cutout suits the new unit. Many induction cooktops are close in size to gas ones. We check the cutout, run the circuit and fit it. A licensed gasfitter needs to cap the old gas line.
