LED downlights in Mont Albert need a plan when the ceilings are high, plastered and sometimes decorative. We design the layout, fit the lights and add dimmers so the rooms keep their character.

Most downlight jobs here begin when the back of the house gets renovated and someone asks why the extension glows while the original lounge stays dim. High Federation and Edwardian ceilings change the maths. Lights set that far up throw a narrower pool, so we pick beam angles and spacing to suit the room instead of punching holes in a neat grid. Ornate cornices and ceiling roses are worth keeping, so we leave them alone and often combine a few downlights with a pendant or wall lights. Dimmers matter more than people expect in rooms with leadlight windows and timber floors. Out in the garden, long driveways and tall trees are good candidates for low path lights. Good lighting installation here is as much about restraint as brightness, and we talk through placement before a single hole is cut.
