A lot of owners here move into a new townhouse and find a dark entry hall, one bulb in the stairwell and nothing outside the front door. The builder put in the minimum, and the minimum is rarely enough. A few well-placed downlights make a hallway feel twice the width. Pendant lights above the kitchen island or dining table work better than another grid of ceiling holes. In the original post-war houses, the job is different. Ceilings are lower and often plasterboard over old timber framing, so we check the roof space for insulation and obstructions before we cut. Outdoor lighting near the front path and along the side fence makes a shared driveway safer at night. Good downlight installation is about placement first, then brightness and colour, and we run through your options before starting.
