Balwyn is a suburb where the same street can hold an original brick home and a rebuilt two-storey house, and their lighting needs barely overlap. The older homes usually have a single ceiling light per room, which leaves corners dark. Adding downlight installation to the kitchen and hallway lifts them noticeably, and a few pendants over the bench finish the job. In new builds, the plan is bigger: layered lighting, dimmers by scene, feature lights in the stairwell, garden lighting along the path and outside lights at the entry.
