High Federation and Edwardian ceilings are lovely and awkward at once. Warm air collects above you, which is why a ceiling fan suits these rooms so well. A fan needs a solid fixing point and a sensible drop for the height, and an older plaster ceiling is not always the place to hang one without checking above it. For a split system, the electrical part is a dedicated circuit from the board, an isolator beside the outdoor unit and the final connection. Refrigerant and mounting belong to the A/C installer, and the wiring is ours. Original boards here sometimes have no spare capacity for a new circuit, so check before you buy. We choose spots for the isolator and cable that avoid leadlight and original timber trim, and we keep external runs neat along the side of the house.

Yes, with the right fixing. We use a down-rod to bring the fan to a sensible height, make sure it is secured to framing rather than plaster alone, and wire it to a switch or wall control. We check the ceiling space before cutting anything.
