House rewiring

Edwardian, Federation and interwar homes in Ivanhoe are lovely to live in, but behind the plaster is often wiring that has outlived its era. We find rubber or cloth wiring with brittle insulation, old fuse boards and additions made in several different decades. Over time the insulation breaks down, and that is a safety concern. A rewire replaces it all with modern cable, a new board and enough circuits for today's appliances. It is much easier when a renovation has the walls and ceilings open, and the careful way to do it in a period home is to work through roof space and sub-floor wherever possible so original plaster and timber survive. We will not recommend a full rewire if it is not needed. An inspection tells us what is there, and we can stage the work so a family can stay in the house. We take care around decorative features.
