LED downlights and lighting

A Federation lounge with a three-metre ceiling can swallow a standard downlight, and a plaster ceiling rose does not want holes drilled beside it. The answer is a lighting plan made for the room. In taller rooms we often suggest pendant lights or wall lights to warm things up, with downlights in the kitchen and hallway where they work well. Architect-designed houses in Ivanhoe, with their exposed beams and big glass walls, call for a different approach: concealed LED strips, spots aimed at artwork and dimmers across the board. Before we drill anything, we check the roof space and old ceiling cable, because many period homes still have original wiring above the plaster. If it is worn, we recommend dealing with it first. We pick warm white fittings and match colour temperature across the house so every room feels like part of the same home.
