Harp Village, Hays Paddock and wide streets of post-war brick homes give Kew East a quieter feel than its neighbour. Plenty of houses here are being extended or rebuilt, and the wiring needs to keep up.
Kew East homes
Kew East grew mostly between the wars and in the years after, so the typical home is an interwar bungalow or a post-war brick house on a decent-sized block. Plenty of these have been extended at the back or replaced with large new double-storey homes, and the suburb now mixes original 1950s houses with modern rebuilds and some townhouses. In the older homes, boards are often original or only partly upgraded, with safety switches missing from some circuits. Renovations bring new kitchens, open-plan living and outdoor areas, all asking for more power and better lighting. The new builds want smart lighting, data points and EV charging planned in from the start.

Not always. We test the existing wiring first. If the cable is in good condition we can often keep it and upgrade the board, adding safety switches. If it is perished or badly altered over the years, rewiring the old section while the walls are open makes sense.
