Alphington homeowners updating a bungalow kitchen often take the chance to leave gas behind. Induction cooktop installation here needs a circuit of its own and a board with room for it.

A bungalow kitchen renovation usually means taking out the old gas cooktop and rethinking the layout. Induction is popular because it removes a gas line, cleans easily and heats quickly. It does draw a lot of power, and an older board in an Edwardian or interwar house may not have the capacity. We start by testing the existing circuits and looking at what's spare. The cooktop gets a circuit and breaker to itself, with cable rated for the load. Owners who are also adding an EV charger or a split system should plan the board's capacity as a whole, because all of them add up. Houses on larger blocks often have the meter box on a side wall, so the cable route to the kitchen may be longer. We work with your cabinet maker and gasfitter, connect the cooktop, test everything and show you the controls.
What the job involves, warning signs and what's included are on our main induction cooktops page. For everything else we do locally, see electrician Alphington.
Good work. Happy locals.

FAQ
Can't see your question? Call Steve on 0450 347 495.
It depends on the board and the supply. We add up the likely loads, check what's spare and tell you whether it's fine or needs an upgrade. Planning all the appliances together avoids doing the board twice.
