Many of the big old houses here have kitchens that were tacked onto the back or reworked in the eighties, and the wiring reflects it. An induction cooktop draws a lot of power at once, so it needs its own dedicated circuit and a board that can cope. We check the board first. If it is full or old, we sort that before the cooktop goes in, rather than leaving you to trip the power every time the pot boils. In the flat blocks, gas to induction can mean running new cable through a solid wall or a shared duct, so we plan the route and agree it with the owner or manager. We disconnect and cap the old gas supply only in coordination with a licensed gasfitter, and fit the cooktop to the cutout you choose.
