LED downlights in St Kilda West can lift a dark Victorian room without touching its character. We also fit pendant lights, dimmers and garden lighting that copes with salty air.

High Victorian and Edwardian ceilings give you lots of choice, and lots of ways to get it wrong. Cut downlights into the wrong spot and you lose the line of a cornice or a ceiling rose. We plan the layout first, usually a few well-placed LED downlights for task areas, then pendant lights over tables and a dimmer so the room can shift from reading to dinner. Roof spaces above the old plaster need checking for insulation and wiring before holes go in. Out the front and back, lights near West Beach and Beaconsfield Parade face salt, so garden lighting needs marine-grade or well-sealed fittings that will not pit in a season or two. Because so much of the suburb sits under heritage overlays, we choose discreet fittings for anything seen from the street. The result looks finished, not fitted.

Not if they are placed with care. We keep downlights well clear of roses and cornices, use small trims, and often switch to wall lights or a pendant in rooms with detailed plasterwork. You still get good light without cutting into the features that make the room.
