LED downlights in Deepdene can brighten a dim bungalow without losing its charm, if the fittings suit the ceiling and the cable above them is in good order.

Californian bungalows and Edwardian houses are charming and a little gloomy, with small windows and a single light in the middle of each room. Lighting installation changes that. In rooms where the ceiling is plain plaster, downlights spread light evenly. Where there are ornate cornices or ceiling roses, we usually choose pendants, wall lights or concealed LED strips instead, and add dimmers so you control the mood. Before cutting any ceiling, we check the roof space, because old wiring above and loose insulation can make downlights a hazard. In older houses that old cable is common, so we may repair or reroute it first. Out the front and along paths, low garden lighting works well near mature gardens, and we choose fittings that sit comfortably with the period look of the house.

Not without a check. Old cable above the ceiling may be brittle or crowded, and downlights give off heat. We inspect the roof space first and tell you if the wiring needs attention. In some cases we suggest a different light type or sort the wiring before fitting anything.
