LED downlights and lighting

A common sight in newer Bentleigh townhouses is a large open living, dining and kitchen space lit by three or four downlights placed for the builder's convenience. The result is bright patches over the bench and gloom elsewhere. We rework it with additional downlights in an even grid, dimmers by zone and pendants over the dining table or island. In the older bungalows on streets off Centre Road, the ceilings are plaster with narrow roof spaces, so we check clearances and insulation before cutting holes. Warm-white LEDs suit the period character better than cool white, and we match colour temperature throughout a room. Outside, garden lights and path lights can be added for the front entry. When ceiling height or space is too tight for recessed fittings, we say so and suggest surface-mounted or wall lights.
