LED downlights in Fairfield can brighten a dark Edwardian hallway without touching the mouldings you love. We plan the layout, cut neat holes and wire the lot to dimmers where it makes sense.

Federation and Edwardian rooms here tend to have high ceilings and one central pendant doing all the work. Californian bungalows are the opposite: lower ceilings and cosy rooms that suit soft, layered light. Either way, the job starts in the roof space, where we check the insulation, the cable condition and what sits above each spot. Then we plan the downlight installation around the room rather than a rigid grid. Pendant lights over a bench, dimmers in the living area and a wall light in the hall all earn their place. Out the back, garden lighting along a path or deck makes a newly extended rear of the house usable after dark. We keep colour temperature matched across each room, so the new lights look like one decision, not several.

Both can work. In lower rooms we use shallow, wide-beam LED downlights and keep them well spaced, then add a pendant or wall light for warmth. We look in the roof space first to confirm there is room above each spot.
