Tall rooms, thick walls and original timber floors are the charm of Oakleigh's older homes, and also the reason outlets are scarce. A Victorian front room might have one GPO and a lot of extension leads. We work out where you really need power, then find the least disruptive way in. Often that means running cable beneath the floor from the sub-floor space or down from the roof, fitting a double powerpoint at skirting height and closing it up neatly. Where plaster is original and brittle, we are careful with cut-outs. Interwar and post-war houses further from the centre are usually easier. Apartments near the station need a conversation about what the building allows. Wherever it is, we test the circuit first, so new outlets do not overload old wiring.
