The oldest houses in Oakleigh have been standing for well over a century, and their wiring has been through several generations. Some still carry cloth-wrapped or rubber-insulated cable in the walls and roof. In others, newer sections sit on top of old sections, with joints tucked wherever there was space. A rewire in a heritage house takes care, because plaster, cornices and timber floors are worth protecting. We plan cable runs through ceiling and sub-floor voids where we can, and patch access holes properly. We test first, so you know whether a full rewire is necessary or whether upgrading the board and certain circuits will do. Doing it during a renovation is easiest, though it is not the only option. Interwar and later homes often need less, and we say so.
