Fitzroy terraces get renovated again and again, but the board often stays put. We regularly find ceramic fuses or early breakers, no safety switches and a kitchen that has since gained a dishwasher, a wall oven and a coffee machine, all leaning on circuits from another era. Overloaded circuits get warm, and a house with solid masonry walls can hide problems for a long time. The fix is a modern board with a separate breaker for each circuit and RCD protection that trips quickly when something goes wrong. We label every circuit and test each one so the board tells the truth about the house. Double-storey terraces can have awkward cable routes, so we check how the supply reaches each floor. And we try to keep the new board in the same spot, tidy and compliant, without disturbing the original finishes around it.
