In a Victorian terrace the board is usually squeezed into a small cupboard or an external box, and decades of renovation have been added on top. A new kitchen, a rear addition and a few extra circuits have all been connected to whatever was nearby. Some of those connections are tacked onto original circuits that were never designed for the load. We replace the board with a modern one, fit RCD safety switches and circuit breakers, and sort the circuits into a sensible layout. Space is tight, so we choose a compact board and plan the cable entry to keep things neat. In terraces sharing walls, we check how the supply arrives before we start. Apartments have their own boards, usually inside the unit, and we upgrade those with the building's rules in mind.
