Terraces and cottages here were built long before electricity, so the wiring was added later and often altered again. Open a ceiling and you may find rubber or cloth cable, joins hidden in the roof and circuits that aren't what the board suggests. Not every old house needs a full rewire, so we test and inspect first. With party walls and tight rooms, access is the challenge. We usually work from the roof space and underfloor, then chase walls only where required. Period features matter in heritage streets, so we protect cornices, ceiling roses and timber skirting. Owners often time a rewire with a renovation, with the builder already opening walls. Apartments rarely need one, but converted warehouses sometimes do, where layers of earlier fit-outs have left old cable behind.
