A house with a Victorian front and a modern rear often has two networks of cable and one confused router. Wifi works in the kitchen and drops at the front study, thanks to solid brick walls in between. Data points in the rooms that matter, with cable to a central spot, solve it. We pull cable from the ceiling cavity or subfloor, and finish with neat wall plates. In flats, we check how the building handles NBN and whether cable can cross shared space. For TV points, we plan the route so power, aerial and data meet behind the screen. Mounting on an old brick or lath wall needs the right fixings, and we choose them carefully.
