The patchwork shows up fast when you start counting outlets. The kitchen at the back, added in a later decade, has a row of them above the bench. The original bedrooms at the front have one each, if you are lucky, hidden behind a wardrobe. We bring more points to the rooms that need them, usually by pulling cable down from the ceiling cavity or up from the subfloor, and we try to avoid cutting into decorative plaster. A double powerpoint beside the bed, a USB-C outlet in the study nook and a weatherproof outdoor powerpoint for the back deck are the usual requests. Flats in the interwar and post-war blocks nearby need a similar fix, but with approvals if a wall is shared. Before adding anything, we check what the circuit already carries, because the board in these houses has often been squeezed.
