Cream and red brick homes from the post-war decades often have wiring that has survived better than earlier cloth-covered cable, but it is still decades old. Insulation dries out, joins get crowded and early circuits were never designed for modern loads. We test the wiring, which tells us whether a partial rewire of the worst areas will do or the whole house needs it. In single-storey brick, we cross the ceiling cavity and drop into walls, and this causes relatively little mess. If an extension is planned, rewiring first avoids joining new wiring to a weak old system. Where a house will be demolished, we will tell you not to spend the money. We also replace the board in the same job, so the new wiring is properly protected.
