The early twentieth-century houses here carry original or patched wiring more often than not, with rubber insulation, porcelain fittings and joins made by several generations of tradespeople. We test the lot and give you a plain account of which parts are sound and which are not. Long-term owners often prefer to spread the work: first a new board, then a rewire in stages as rooms are renovated. That is a sensible approach. We plan the order so each stage makes sense on its own and nothing needs to be redone later. In houses with ornate plaster, we use the roof space and subfloor and keep wall openings small. Where an overlay protects the streetscape, our work is all internal. Every stage is tested and certified, so you always know where things stand.
