LED downlights suit Windsor's mix of cottages and apartments, but the right fitting depends on what sits above the ceiling. We check that before we cut.

A Victorian cottage built close to the footpath often has a low front room and a roof cavity packed with old cable. Before we begin any downlight installation, we trace what is up there, because cutting into a live old wire is a mistake nobody wants. In the red-brick walk-ups, ceilings tend to be flat plaster with a thin void, so we choose shallow, fire-rated downlights that fit. The newer apartments near Dandenong Road can have concrete ceilings, where surface-mount lighting or a wall light is the honest answer. Dimmers help small rooms feel bigger, and warm LED colours suit older brickwork. We also fit pendant lights in the kitchen where there is room to hang them. If your building shares a stairwell, entrance or car park light with the body corporate, those fittings are theirs to approve, not ours to touch on our own.
