A back bedroom on original wiring may need its own new run rather than a spur off something tired. Edwardian and Federation rooms have timber skirtings, picture rails and plaster that deserve respect, so we use roof spaces and subfloors to bring cable in, then drop it behind the skirting. In the 1930s flat blocks around Glen Eira Road, the walls are thick and the outlets sparse, so a double powerpoint at the desk or the bedside is a real upgrade. Out the back, an outdoor powerpoint on the verandah or by the garden shed suits a weekend of hedge trimming. Heritage overlays keep us tidy at the front.
