In a street of Edwardian cottages, original wiring can sit alongside newer work, and a bit of old rewiring tucked inside the walls is easy to miss. Rubber or cloth wiring becomes brittle with age, and heat in a roof space makes it worse. We test the cables, inspect what we can access and then give a clear verdict. Brick walk-ups can have their own problems, since cable buried in solid walls cannot be pulled out easily. In those cases, we sometimes run new cable on a clean surface route instead, or in ducts that already exist. A rewire in a rental needs the owner on board, so we provide a written report that explains what we found. We also tell you if a partial rewire will do, so you do not pay for more than the property needs.
