Many of the Victorian workers' cottages around Chapel Street and High Street were wired once, early, and then patched for a century. Rubber and cloth insulation dries out and cracks, and what looks like a working circuit may be hanging by a thread. We begin with a test and inspection so you can see which parts are sound. The usual rewire in a single-fronted cottage runs new cable across the ceiling void and subfloor, with as little damage to walls as possible. Because these houses sit close to the footpath and often have a lean-to at the back, we plan routes carefully. A rewire is also the moment to fit safety switches, a new board and enough outlets for the way you live now. Some owners rewire in stages, starting with the worst rooms.
