Switchboard upgrades
in Balaclava.

Walk up the stairs of a brick block and you will often find the meter cupboard on the landing, with a board that has not changed since the building opened. In cottages, the board is small and cannot cope with air conditioning and an induction cooktop at the same time. Our first job is to test what is there, including whether any fuses are the rewirable kind. Then we fit a new board with breakers and safety switches, labelling each circuit clearly. In an apartment block we work out access with the building manager first, since the main supply may be shared. For landlords, we leave a clear note on what we found and what we replaced. It is a good moment to check smoke alarms and the condition of exposed cable nearby, since boards rarely get attention otherwise.
