Behind a hall cupboard door in a Victorian cottage you may find porcelain fuse holders and a tangle of cable added by several owners. Fuse wire is replaced by hand, and nothing on that board will switch off quickly if someone is touched by a live fault. A modern board fixes that, with circuit breakers and RCD safety switches protecting each part of the house. The timing often arrives with a renovation. An open-plan kitchen out the back asks a lot of a supply that was built for a couple of lights and a kettle. Our process is simple. We check the supply, replace the board, label every circuit and test the lot.
