Count the outlets in a single-fronted cottage and you will often find one or two per room, some of them original. Several owners over the decades have added to them, usually by splicing onto whatever was closest. We take a different approach. Before adding extra powerpoints, we test the circuits that already exist, so a new outlet is not hung off a weak link. In the open-plan kitchens built onto the back of these houses, we like to put a double powerpoint at each end of the bench and one on the island. USB-C outlets suit the study nook and bedside. On the narrow lots near Greville Street, the courtyard is often the only outdoor space, so an outdoor powerpoint for a barbecue or heater is popular. We fit it with weatherproofing and safety-switch protection, then tidy the cable runs so the walls look untouched.
